Born 1965, in Bristol he is best known as the leading member of YBAs (Young British Artists). Hirst dominated the art scene in Britain during the 1990s, achieving international prominence. Death is a central theme in his works. He became famous for a series in which dead animals, such as tiger-sharks, sheep and cows are preserved in formaldehyde.
