Born 1965 in Freetown, Sierra Leone, she currently lives in Melbourne. Piccinini works with a variety of techniques, such as painting, sculpture, video, installation, digital printing. A contemporary renewed artist, she was selected for the 50th International Art Exhibition of Venice in 2003. Grotesque unrecognisable figures, strange mutant creatures where human and animal aspects are developed into new fantastic species – resulting from a complex study on nature and artificiality – are the protagonists of her artworks, which are currently under debate because of the relationship between science and ethics.
