Born 1951 in Osaka. The art of disguise, that has a long tradition in the Japanese culture, is the way Morimura uses to enter with irony and irreverence in a world where the boundaries between male and female elements, as well as between East and West are called into question in her critical observation of the reality we live in. By the use of photography, her preferred artistic media, the artist creates mainly self-portraits and disguises performances.
