Born 1943 in Montovolo di Grizzana Moranti, on the Apennines between the Italian regions of Toscany and Emilia. Ontani is a multifaceted artist who, for about thirty years, has been exhibiting his body like an artwork through the use of tableaux-vivants, or photographic self-portraits in character of historical figures or works of art. Being a versatile artist, Ontani goes beyond space-temporal barriers manipulating different cultures, languages and expressive techniques with great mastery. Assuming D’Annunzio’s principal of making his life a work of art, he always places himself at the centre of the scene and of his research, proposing himself as an “art subject” and, at the same time, as an identity and transformation workshop, in constant search of the “other” and the “elsewhere”.
