The apparent distance between the two most frequently used media in her artworks, videos and sewing/fabrics, becomes smaller if we consider that for Kimsooja 'videos are actually a nonmaterial way to sew, to join people and real life'. She herself becomes the needle, the linking element between different realities, different 'conditions of humanity'. Her work 'Mandala'(2002) is an audio installation in which the two souls of the world (western and eastern) seem to melt together. A jukebox speaker plays Tibetan monks chants: for a moment, the miracle of a perfect match point between west and east seems possible.
