Born in Glen Ridje, New Jersey, 1954. An American artist, currently working in New York, photographer and film director, she is best known for her conceptual self-portraits. For over thirty years Sherman has made herself the object of her artworks, transforming into a range of costumes and photographing the concept of identity acting as author, costume designer, director and even model. Just from her first shoots, Sherman adopted several female identities, from adolescent to housewife, from Renaissance noblewoman to femme fatale, claiming to dominate the social and psychological spaces all these women have lived in history.
